It is a matter of immense pleasure that the department has matured into
a premier resource for the study and is striving hard towards the goal
of providing innovative and quality education with high standards to
achieve academic excellence. The department has produced more than
1000 graduates and 400 post graduates since its inception in 1997. The
department has to its credit 20 PhDs awarded during the last two
decades. Apart from this, more than 100 students have qualified CSIRUGC NET. Students have gained life-turning experiences in the department which has enabled them
to reach new heights in their professional life. We not only train the students to become excellent
scientists, technologists, academicians and analysts, but also help them mould themselves into better
human beings. Today this has been proved by the fact that the students who have tread the paths of
this department have achieved fame worldwide. |

The department is actively involved to develop long
term collaborations with National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal; Central Food Technological
Institute, Mysore; All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi; University of
Ljubljana, Slovenia; Punjabi University Patiala; Gujarat University, Ahmedabad and few others.
Several research projects funded by UGC, SERB-DST and RUSA, MHRD, New Delhi have been
successfully completely by the Department and some are at present ongoing.

“Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world. Science is the highest personification of the nation because that nation will remain the first which carries the furthest the works of thought and intelligence.”
The intense technological advances in the field of science have opened up growth opportunities in
newer dimensions. Biotechnology provides innovative solutions to medical, environmental, and
agricultural challenges. The department is involved in active research in the interdisciplinary areas of
biotechnology for providing critical solutions and development of products of commercial
significance. The main research fields include Applied Microbiology, Probiotics Technology,
Environmental Biotechnology, Molecular Microbiology, Genome Computational Biology, Plant
Molecular Virology, Bioinformatics, Medical Biotechnology, Aging & Neurobiology, Food Quality
& Safety, Biosensors and Nanobiotechnology which will provide extensive information to
postgraduate students about emerging research areas. We also groom, motivate and expose
postgraduate students for comprehensive and in-depth practical hands on training in various institutes
of international repute which enables them to march along with latest developments. It makes us feel
proud to share that the alumini of the department are well placed in various universities, research
institutes and industries in India and abroad in various sectors including Medical, Pharma, Health and
Food & Nutrition etc. Thus, we are confident that our students will emerge as assets not only to this
department and to the organization they belong, but also to the country at large.
